| Rose
D'Orsey (Abt
1818 - 1897) - Who are her parents?
The wife of James Thompson (Abt
1813 - 1900), Rose D'Orsey is French Canadian and apparently born
in Cornwall Township, Stormont County, Ontario, Canada or the province
of Quebec. Rose married James Thompson in 1839 and they settled
in Norfolk County, Ontario. Who are her parents? Her name has also
been documented as Rosanna Dorsey, Roseann Dorsey and Rose Dersey.
James
Thompson (Abt 1813 -
1900) - Who are his parents? Is he indeed the brother of Jane Howe?
Born in the townland of Leam in the County of Fermanagh, Northern
Ireland, James Thompson immigrated to Canada at about age 18,
arriving in Quebec in 1835. He volunteered in the Rebellion
of 1837 and then married Rose D'Orsey in 1839. The details
of James' life in Ireland have yet to be discovered. Circustancial
evidence strongly suggests that James is the brother of Jane
Howe, wife of Oliver Howe, but I have not found any source
documents that can confirm this link.
Tamson
Finch? Samson Finch? Tamison Finch? (Abt 1842 -
1875) - What is her real name?
The daughter of Titus Finch and Elizabeth Glover,
Tamson Finch married James Henry Thompson, the son of James Thompson
and Rose D'Orsey. Her name has been recorded as Tamson, Tamison
and Samson. Which is it?
Rebellion of 1837 : James
Thompson apparently served under Captain
Walter Anderson. Seeking any additional information on Capt. Anderson’s
men and action.
