PIGGOTT - Piggott's Castle (Portland, Oregon)

According to the Oregon Historic Photograph Collection, Piggott's Castle "was built by C.H. Piggott who came to Portland in 1877 where he worked in railroad construction, produce sales, and was a bricklayer before establishing himself as a lawyer."

"Piggott's Castle" was also known as "Gleall Castle" or "Mt. Gleall Castle." According to one source, "It was built in 1892 by Charles Piggott, a lumberman, and called Mt. Gleall Castle until he lost it in a foreclosure. According to "A Century of Portland Architecture": "Mount Gleall was an anagram drawn from his children, named Gladys, Earl and Lloyd."
